Reimagine Homes and Commons

The Reimagine Homes & Commons Project seeks to address the discourse of the institutionalization and commodification of the commons in relationship to our sense of belonging. It is a re-envisioning of what a tribal living room might be, out of the context of a plutocratic system – introduced as an art installation located within an established municipal territory. With the permission of the local fire department, we negotiated a proposal to bring a fire circle back into the town park which became a sequential element in relationship to the 2022 Crestone Energy Fair Art Installation. An altar was set by the fire that represented our community spirit. It was lit at the heart of a living room where attendees are invited to partake in a free-range domestic role-play with activities like tea time, lounging, and art making. While the outstretch of the perimeter is barricaded in what appears to be a large nest constructed using natural brush-piles, the entrance is adorned with low hanging bells that would ring with every entry which would alert others to welcome their relatives home.
